Do we put our faith in Jesus Christ or in church organizations, doctrines, and buildings?

Post by RLStiles »

On October 31, 1517, Martin Luther nailed his 99 theses to a church door in an attempt reveal truth to Christian believers at that time regarding what had become idolatry in the existing religious organizations. Fast forward to today: the Protestant church in America has effectively done the same thing to the Gospel as the religious organizations had done in the 1500's, by saying: "look to the Church to interpret the Scriptures."

Each Church/denomination professes to have the only absolute truth. The fact is: the building and the name they make for themselves is what they elevate and worship in the place of Jesus Christ.

What if we went back to the concept of the church as outlined in Acts 2, where there was no central building? At that time in the early Apostolic church, the believers gathered and ate together daily, praised God and shared all they had so that none was in need in the form of home churches. To find out more about what this would look like today, check out the We Are Church website (founded by Francis Chan) on the links page of Evangel Books website.
